The average Mintec Benchmark Prices (MBP) for EU pork rose by 4.1% m-o-m and 30.4% y-o-y, to EUR
1,976/MT in August 2022, due to increasing in prices in Germany, Spain, France, and Poland. Strong demand
from typical EU holiday destinations (e.g., Spain and France) was reported. Furthermore, declining pork availability
in France, Germany, and Poland supported increasing prices.
The monthly average price of US pork futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) declined by 8% m-o-m
but was up 7.9% y-o-y, to USD 2,330/MT in August, driven by weaker international demand giving further support,
as a strong USD reduces the competitiveness of US exporters on the global market. Further uncertain economic
outlooks weigh on US pork prices.
In August 2022, the average price of UK pork rose by 2% m-o-m and 21.2% y-o-y, to GBP 1,942/MT, supported
by continuing uncertainty surrounding feed availability, caused by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Further
increasing energy costs supported price rises, as the production and storage of pork require substantial energy.
