Eggs
In December, the average price of EU eggs rose by 3.6% m-o-m and 17.9% y-o-y to EUR 1,445/MT,
mainly driven by elevated exports and strong retail demand. EU consumers have been switching to
cheaper animal protein sources, such as egg and chicken, due to firm beef and lamb prices. High feed
prices are expected to keep EU egg prices strong in the short term.
The average price of US eggs rose by 19.8% m-o-m and 65.4% y-o-y to USD 1,486/MT in December,
driven by a downward revision in Q4 production to 2,080 million dozen eggs. Also, egg prices
seasonally increase ahead of Christmas, with higher demand stemming from the holiday baking
season.
