Pear Argentina - ARS/kg
Dec 20 Mar 21
RZ48 - Pear mp AR
The Mintec price of pears from Argentina rose by 12.1% m-o-m to ARS 95/kg in December 2021, in
line with rising input costs and a projected decline in production for the 2021/22 MY. The price also
increased by 21.4% y-o-y. A late October frost is expected to have damaged a proportion of the
Argentinian pear crop, thus causing a decline in total production, driving prices higher. Rising labour,
fertiliser and energy costs, combined with a tighter supply, are all contributing to the upward price
The Mintec price of pears from China rose by 1.2% m-o-m to CNY 5,860/MT in December 2021. The
price remained relatively stable m-o-m following a seasonal trend. The slight rise in price is largely
attributed to the growth in export demand, with demand rising in Indonesia and neighbouring SouthEast
Asian markets. However, total production in China is set to increase by 9% y-o-y in the 2021/22
MY, to 18.0m tonnes, following favourable weather conditions. This is potentially limiting the growth
in Chinese pear prices.

Pear whs ES - 7Z11
In December 2021, the average price of Spanish pears rose by 10.68% m-o-m to EUR 1,420/MT, in
line with an expected decline in the 2021/22 MY EU production. Adverse weather conditions hit key
producing countries throughout the growing period, causing a significant drop in production.
Additionally, the World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) reported that EU pear stocks on
December 1st stood at 654,484 tonnes, a decline of 26.9% y-o-y, which is expected to add to the
bullish impetus in the market.
