The average price of EU apples rose by 15.7% m-o-m to EUR 0.28/Kg in August 2022, on the back of high
market uncertainty due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and significant growth in production costs. Despite
the price rise, according to estimates by the World Apple and Pear Association, European apple stocks stood at
535,521 tonnes on 1st July 2022, an increase of 16.5% y-o-y. Additionally, preliminary estimates for EU apple
production in 2022/23 indicate a rise of 1% y-o-y and 9%, compared to the previous three-year average to 12.2m
tonnes, which could ease further upward price movements in the remainder of 2022.
The Mintec price of US apples declined by 7.1% m-o-m to USD 0.73/lbs in August 2022, attributed to a seasonal
drop in demand combined with high stock levels reported in July. However, the price is up 1.5% y-o-y in line with
higher input costs that have driven up the cost of production.

2B11 - Apple whs CN
The Mintec price of Chinese apples remained stable m-o-m in August 2021, at USD 1.36/kg, up 24.8% y-o-y.
Prices remain firm in line with rising input costs (including labour and transportation) and China's strict COVID-19
control measures. Additionally, there are reportedly low volumes of apples in storage, and high demand, amid the
associated health benefits and versatility of the fruit, thus keeping prices firm.
