ORJU - Orange conc fzn ICE NY (DH-0)
The US orange juice futures price on the ICE exchange rose by 8.6% m-o-m, reaching an average of USD
1.71/lbs in August 2022. This is in line with record low orange juice production in the 2021/22 MY, combined with
higher overhead costs, which are being passed on to consumers. US orange juice ending stocks for the 2021/22
MY are estimated to have dropped 38% below the previous 5-year average, and are down 28% y-o-y to 178,000
tonnes. The arrival of the Brazilian orange 2022/23 crop is estimated to influence the market in the next two months
as supplies will increase. However, for the next month, the price is likely to remain volatile.
The Mintec Benchmark Prices for Brazilian orange juice rose slightly by 1.5% m-o-m, to USD 2.1/kg in August
2022, in line with higher y-o-y production coupled with firm demand, leaving a fairly stable market equilibrium.
There has also been limited trading activity over the summer months in the Northern Hemisphere, which has eased
any significant upward price momentum. Juice processors in Brazil have begun processing fruit from the new
2022/23 crop. Despite a forecast rise in 2022/23 orange production, current juice inventories are lower-thanaverage due
to the lack of old-season supplies, thus continuing to keep orange juice prices higher y-o-y (+52.6%).

The Mintec price of Chinese apple juice in the US rose by 7.1% m-o-m, to USD 12.9/gallons in August 2022, due
to limited volumes available in China, as unfavourable weather impacted the 2021/22 crop. The new season is due
to commence in September (with the 2022/23 apple crop). According to market sources, there are limited volumes
of apple concentrate available at present, which is driving prices up. However, prices are expected to remain
relatively stable over the next month as producers are expected to hold off selling large quantities too early in the
season.

The Mintec Benchmark Prices for EU high acid apple juice remained stable in August 2022, at EUR 1,400/MT, due to
low stocks and low production. Prices have also risen in line with market uncertainty surrounding the Russia-Ukraine
conflict and high processing costs, which are reportedly up 50% for some producers compared to 2021. Despite the
strong upcoming Polish crop, the lack of low acid juice coming from Ukraine could support prices.

**Please note that in October 2021, the methodology behind these prices and sources used was changed; therefore, the large price swings seen month-on-month do not reflect a true
fall/rise in the market but instead show a "rebasing" of price levels based on industry feedback.
