The Norwegian-caught Atlantic cod average price fell to a 30-month low of NOK 15,211/MT during April 2021,
showing respective declines of NOK 943/MT (-5.8%) m-o-m and NOK 5,604/MT (-26.9%) y-o-y. This is due to a
20% increase in the Barents Sea cod catch quota, juxtaposed with relatively modest demand, most notably weak
orders from restaurants and foodservice vendors, due to COVID-19 restrictions on social movement.
At 11,619/MT, the monthly average price of Norwegian-landed haddock contracted by NOK 2,771/MT (-19.3%) mo-m
in April 2021. This was as a result of robust supply against tepid out-of-home demand, particularly from
restaurants, in addition to workplaces and educational refectories. However, the April 2021 average gained NOK
721/MT (+6.6%) y-o-y, which reflects growing demand for retail-friendly, value-added cuts for home consumption.
After hitting a four-month high in April, the monthly average price of Russian-caught Alaska pollock fell by RUB
4.0/kg (-3.7%) m-o-m to RUB 102.1kg, reflecting the market's fundamental weakness, in light of China's
continued import restrictions on Russian seafood. China is the main export market for Russian-caught whitefish
species and the lack of access is causing a glut of pollock in Russia, weighing on prices and stretching storage
capacity. The dynamic is captured in the May price contracting by RUB 16.8/kg (-14.1%) y-o-y.
