The Brazil nut MBP continues to soar, with May prices reaching an average of USD 4.85/lb, up 9% m-o-m and
82% y-o-y. Supplies in European warehouses are scarce, following lower production and delays to the harvest in
Bolivia, the largest Brazil nut producer. The situation is further exacerbated by maritime transport disruptions.
The dried apricot market has firmed considerably since prices bottomed in April last year, rising by USD 1,550/MT
(+54%) to USD 4,440/MT on 19th May, up on average by 1% m-o-m in May and an increase of 42% y-o-y.
Supplies in Turkey are presently tight, especially on smaller sized fruit, and farmers have been withholding some of
their stock since frosts hit Malatya, Turkey, in the last week of March, adding to the bullish market sentiment.
The Turkish sultana market fell again in May, with the Turkish sultana MBP down by 3% m-o-m at USD 1,756/MT.
Prices continue to be primarily influenced by the weakening Turkish lira, down from an average of 8.28 to the USD
in April to 8.49 in May. Weaker demand during the pandemic and relatively ample supply caused prices to decline
y-o-y, down by 6% in May
