Despite a marginal recovery in chicken production from Avian Influenza (AI), the average price of EU
chicken reached EUR 2,058/MT in June, up 1.3% m-o-m and 14.3% y-o-y supported by high feed
prices. EU domestic demand for chicken is expected to increase in the short term with the reopening
of the foodservice sector, thus supporting prices further.
In June, the average price of US chicken reached USD 2,266/MT, down 0.4% m-o-m with an upward
revision in projected supplies in Q2 2021. However, the price was 46.2% higher than that recorded
in June 2020, on the back of elevated feed prices. Also, chicken wings, which have been in high
demand as a take-away item during the pandemic, are at their lowest level in cold storage since 2012.
