The Brazil nut MBP continues to soar, with the June average price climbing to USD 5.49/lb, up 13%
m-o-m and 112% higher than at the same time last year. Supplies in Europe remain tight,
following lower production and delays to the harvest in Bolivia, the largest Brazil nut producer. The
situation is further exacerbated by maritime transport disruptions.
Turkish dried apricot prices plateaued in June at USD 4,400/MT, unchanged m-o-m but
significantly higher than last year, by 35%. Supplies in Turkey are tight. The new Turkish dried
apricot crop has been forecast by Turkish authorities at 86,039 tonnes, compared with 85,000 tonnes
last year. Earlier this year, there were concerns over a significant drop in output, following adverse
weather in Malatya, Turkey, in winter and spring.
The Turkish sultana MBP declined again in June, down by 3% m-o-m and 9% y-o-y at USD
1,703/MT. Prices continue to be primarily influenced by the weak Turkish lira and tepid demand.
Heavy rains reportedly hit the Alasehir area in June, a key grape growing area in Turkey, causing some
damage to grapevines. The Tepekoy area north of Alasehir was hit particularly hard; however, market
sources speculate that losses will be minimal.
