The average price of US cotton rose by 2.3% m-o-m and 44.5% y-o-y to Usc 86/lbs in June 2021.
Robust global demand and strong US cotton exports supported cotton prices. Also, low 2021/22
beginning cotton stocks (down 56% y-o-y) have generated a bullish sentiment in the US cotton
market.
The average price of Indian cotton stayed firm at INR 1,30,838/MT, up 9.3% m-o-m and 45.3% y-o-y
underpinned by low cotton stocks in the country. Another two factors contributing to firm Indian
cotton prices are the resumption of global operations and high mill demand. Also, Indian cotton
prices have been competitive compared to prices of cotton from US and Brazil, thus increasing the
export potential of Indian cotton.
