EU HDPE prices have been driven higher by tight supply and firm global demand. Producers' stocks
have been exhausted in Europe following robust demand, plant shutdowns and weaker imports. This
caused the June average price of EU HDPE to rise to EUR 1,916/MT, up 86% y-o-y and 1.3% m-o-m.
The EU LDPE price exhibited the same trend as the EU HDPE price, increasing on the back of tight
supply and firm demand. Consequently, the June average price of EU LDPE was EUR 2,362/MT, up
114% y-o-y and 3.1% m-o-m.
US polymer prices were pushed higher by factory closures in Q3 2020 and Q2 2021, amid firm global
demand. This significantly depleted US HDPE available stocks, causing prices to surge since the
beginning of 2021. The market remained flat in June however, as already soaring prices weighed
slightly on demand amid some factories beginning to lift force majeures, though the market remains
tight and thus the price remains supported. The June average price of US HDPE was recorded at USD
2,425/MT, up 107% y-o-y and unchanged m-o-m.
US LDPE mirrored the market trend in the US HDPE market, supported by reduced production and
strong global demand, but remained flat as these fundamental factors eased slightly during June.
Accordingly, the June average price of US LDPE reached USD 2,976/MT, up 92% y-o-y and unchanged
m-o-m.
